About me

Welcome to AshandJar! My name is Ashley, and I initially started this blog to keep my friends and family who live out of town up to date on our wedding planning. My fiancé, Jared, proposed in November of 2008, and we have been slowly planning our wedding ever since. Being that we both live in Baltimore and all of my family resides in the Pittsburgh area, I thought it would be nice to document the wedding planning process. Our wedding is on Saturday, May 29, 2010 which also happens to be my parents anniversary.

As an avid healthy living and design blog reader, though, I also like to write about those two subjects. While I certainly am not the model eater, exerciser, or designer, I do enjoy sharing and learning more about those topics. As a little background, I danced all of my life up until I graduated college. I absolutely loved it and often feel like there is a giant void in my life without it. What helps get me through, however, is exercise and yoga. It mentally centers me and provides me with the outlet that I need to remain sane.

I also am a huge fan of animals, specifically dogs. I have an albino Japanese Chin named Tai, and he was the best surprise I ever received. My aunt fosters pets and decided he needed to be mine during the month of July in 2004. While I was initially terrified to take care of an animal, I can’t imagine my life without him now. He is the love of my and Jared’s life.

This love of animals also leads me to an uncertain area with food. While I don’t currently eat a vegetarian or vegan diet, I rarely ever eat red meat. I feel very conflicted about this topic and actually shy away from watching movies like Food Inc. or reading books like Skinny Bitch. It’s total ignorance on my part, because I am afraid that I won’t be able to eat anything if I know what is really going on. But, I don’t know how much longer I can keep the blinders on about the terrible issues that plaque the food industry. Needless to say, I will be delving into this topic much more and I hope to learn more from my blog friends.

Professionally, I work in marketing at Johns Hopkins Medicine. I love what I do and find that many of my personal interests cross over into my work life.
